Does "good music", by definition, always have to be enlightening and inspiring?

I find that it's becoming trendy for people to consider such genres as hip hop and heavy metal as "bad music" or at least "not real music" because their themes are not necessarily uplifting and artists tend to talk about the things in life most people would much rather avoid talking about or wish doesn't exist (like sexual lust, social injustice, material ambitions and gains, etc.) The sad fact is these things do exist and if ppl want to sing about these topics, they have a valid reason to do so - that's life. Back to my main question: Why do people look to music to find their spiritually-fulfillment? Why can't they just enjoy music for its beats and rhythms and seek spiritual-inspiration and their ideal world elsewhere, like religion?
